Postpartum Mood & Anxiety Disorders

Postpartum depression is TEMPORARY and TREATABLE. Seeking support from professionals is an act of courage and the first step to getting the help you deserve.

It is not uncommon for women to experience ‘baby blues’ after delivery. Between 60% and 80% of women experience feelings of exhaustion, irritation, and sadness after having given birth. These symptoms may last between two and fourteen days.

If these feelings persist past two weeks, however, you may be experiencing Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders.

Every case of postpartum depression is different. You do not need to meet all of these symptoms:

  • Low mood, sadness, tearfulness

  • Loss of interest, joy, or pleasure in things you used to enjoy

  • Agitation or anxiety

  • Lack of energy or feeling slowed down physically

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Appetite or sleep disturbance

  • Feelings of guilt, shame, or hopelessness

  • Possible thoughts of harming the baby or yourself

If you are experiencing postpartum depression, reach out to your primary care giver or OB today.

HELPFUL TIP

Have your TSH levels checked to find out
if you’re experiencing Thyroid problems.
"About 10% of new moms develop postpartum thyroiditis, which means that the postpartum gland is inflamed. This condition can result in a temporary overactive or underactive thyroid.

Some of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism are weight loss, anxiety, panic attacks and insomnia. Symptoms of hypothyroidism are tiredness, depression, weight gain and loss of memory…

If a new mom's depressed due to a thyroid imbalance, all the antidepressants and therapy in the world wouldn't fix it."
